What I Offer

1-on-1 coaching that helps you reach your goals

You are the best (and only) person who can determine what your goals are. Working with a performance coach can help you reach that goal. Working together, you and I can identify areas of growth and ways to get where you want to go, based on key components of Mindfulness-Acceptance-Commitment and Psychological Skills Training, with possible use of EMDR if it's a useful tool for you in reaching your goals.

See FAQ page for more on how to get started.

Groups that address performance issues

I facilitate group encounters and growth on various goals, depending on the members' needs, goals, age, and professional situation. In group work, we address issues commonly experienced by performing artists such as:

  • motivation

  • performance anxiety

  • negative self-talk

  • attention and focus,

  • improving productivity and efficiency of practice sessions

Depending on how long the group meets, sessions can also provide a space where members can try out what they have learned through performing for the group.

In the group, participants learn how to:

  • relate to problematic thoughts and emotions in helpful ways

  • drop the struggle with performance anxiety

  • develop greater awareness of the present moment through mindfulness practice

  • increase the capacity for attention through focus on external performance-relevant cues rather than internal self-focused ones.

  • connect their performance to their values and choose behaviors that align with these

There are many benefits to doing group work:

  • Groups are cost-effective

  • Group members gain support and encouragement from others who are experiencing similar struggles

  • Participants learn from others' experiences

  • The group is used as an audience and feedback source for performers to try out the ideas discussed

  • Groups provide motivation!

I can lead groups in person if the location is feasible. Online group sessions are always an option. A minimum of 6 sessions is necessary for best results. Each session is typically 90 minutes (but can be 60 minutes if there are time restrictions depending on group size). Group work can happen onsite or virtually.

Presentations & workshops to fit your theme and format

Your event or class likely has a theme or focus to which I may have experience or training to contribute, whether that's as a keynote speaker or single-session speaker/instructor. Let's talk about themes and approaches and see if there's a good fit! Here are a few examples of topics that may be relevant for teachers and performers:

  • Developing attention - a performer's most vital asset

  • Cultivating motivation in ourselves and our students

  • Why perform? Connecting to what makes performance meaningful for you and your students

  • Efficient practicing with contextual interference: More practice does not equal better practice

  • Imagery: What is it and how can I use it to get performance-ready?

  • Arousal regulation: strategies to be calm, confident, and ready for the stage

  • Dropping the struggle with anxiety: A new way of relating to thoughts and feelings

  • How mindfulness can transform your practice and performance

  • Getting into flow: The essential elements

There are many options for presentations and workshops. Examples include:

  • 45 min - 1-hour presentation at a teacher/musician meeting or conference

  • 2 hr, half-day, or full-day workshops for musicians and teachers

  • 2-hour workshops presented over 1-3 days to high schoolers, post-secondary students or performance groups

I facilitate audience interaction in all presentations.

Mia Mulvey (dancer), WA

"My main problem was a fear of going upside down which had been an issue forever, and mainly caused me problems when I was doing an aerial. Rachelle coached me through my mental process when going into this skill and how I talked to myself. She also taught me the art of visualizing and the impact it can have on your movement. We used code words to help me visualize myself doing the aerial. After about 20 minutes working with her, I was able to execute the movement without putting my hands down. I kept practicing throughout the next week and was able to keep doing the movement as well as new skills when I changed my mindset. It has helped me to understand the power of my mind while dancing and to treat it with as much grace as I do my body."
